Appointing an Architect | Penodiad Pensaer
Canllaw Syml i Benodiad Pensaer

Os bydd i chi ystyried gwneud gwaith adeiladu mae’n debygol iawn y byddwch angen gwasanaethau pensaernïol. Mae yna nifer o ffyrdd posibl i’w ystyried ar gyfer sicrhau’r gwasanaethau angenrheidiol y mwyaf cyffredin ohonynt fel a ganlyn:

  • cyfeirio at y copi agosaf o ‘yellow pages’ neu fel nifer cynyddol at ‘Google’ drwy’r rhyngrwyd.

  • drwy argymhelliad o sgwrs gyda chymydog, ffrind neu gyswllt busnes am eu profiad hwy.

  • drwy ofyn am enwau gan yr awdurdod cynllunio neu’r adran rheolaeth adeiladu.

  • gyfeirio ymholiad at gorff yr RIBA neu ARCUK (cyrff cofrestru penseiri).

Pa bynnag ddull a ddefnyddir, mae nifer o gamau y dylid eu cymeryd er sicrhau fod gennych y person neu’r cwmni iawn ar gyfer y gwaith mewn llaw. Dylid yn gyntaf oll sicrhau fod y person neu’r cwmni a’r cymwysterau priodol ar gyfer y gwaith ac yn hyn o beth rhaid cydnabod nad yw pawb sydd am wneud gwaith i’w heiddo yn ystyried y prosiect yn ddigon pwysig i benodi pensaer gan benderfynu yn lle hynny apwyntio technegydd neu syrfëwr i ymdrin â’r prosiect. Os am benodi pensaer fodd bynnag gellir sicrhau fod y person a benodir gennych yn gymwys drwy gyfeirio at y gofrestr penseiri a gedwir gan ARCUK – gweler www.arb.org.uk

Nid yw pob pensaer yn dewis ymaelodi a chofrestr yr RIBA ond mae cynhwysiad cwmni yn rhestr siartredig yr RIBA yn gadarnhad o sicrwydd ansawdd uwch gan fod cwmnïau sydd yn dewis ymaelodi a’r rhestr siartredig hefyd yn ymrwymo i safonau ansawdd uwch. Mae’r RIBA hefyd yn cyhoeddi rhestr o gwmnïau cofrestredig yn www.architecture.com

Cynrychiolir yr RIBA yng Nghymru gan CFPC Cymdeithas Frenhinol Penseiri Cymru neu’r RSAW ac yn yr Alban gan yr RIAS.

Unwaith y bydd i chi wneud rhestr dethol o gwmnïau i’w hystyried dylid gwneud ychydig o waith ymchwil i gefndir a gwaith y cwmnïau hyn. Y dull mwyaf syml o gyflawni hyn yw drwy edrych ar eu gwefan – mae gan y mwyafrif o gwmnïau wefan erbyn hyn ac os nad oes efallai fod hynny hefyd yn dweud rhywbeth am y cwmni. Dylid adolygu’r math o waith sydd wedi ei gwblhau gan y cwmnïau a dewis rhestr fer o gwmnïau y credwch sut yn cyflawni’r math o waith sydd gennych hoffter ohono ac sydd efallai wedi gwneud gwaith o’r raddfa a maint cyfatebol i’r hyn sydd dan ystyriaeth gennych chi – dylid sylweddoli fodd bynnag fod penseiri yn gyffredinol wedi eu hyfforddi i ddelio a phrosiectau o bob math a gwerth a bod y mwyafrif felly yn debygol o allu delio a’r prosiect dan sylw. Un fantais o ddelio a chwmni yn hytrach nag unigolion fyddai’r sicrwydd y byddai modd i’r prosiect gael ei wireddu hyd yn oed pebai’r unigolyn a oedd yn delio a chwi yn wreiddiol yn disgyn yn wael.

Wrth ymweld â chwmni ceisiwch sicrhau eich bod yn trafod a’r pensaer a fydd yng ngofal y prosiect gan ei bod yn bwysig eich bod yn gyfforddus a’ch perthynas a’r unigolyn hyn. Os nad ydych yn gyfforddus yn eich perthynas a’r unigolyn yna mae’n debygol iawn nad yw’r cwmni hwnnw yn addas i chi.

Yn olaf dylid sicrhau fod y cwmni yn cadarnhau eu hamodau apwyntiad yn ysgrifenedig. Fe ddylai’r amodau apwyntiad gynnwys manylion o’r prosiect, y cyllid a benodwyd ar gyfer y gwaith, yr amserlen rhagweledig, y dyletswyddau hynny sydd i’w cyflawni gan y cwmni a’u ffioedd am y gwaith.

Gobeithio y bydd i’r canllawiau syml hyn fod o gymorth i chi wrth chwilio am bensaer i ddarparu gwasanaeth i chwi.

Simple Guidelines to the Appointment of an Architect

If you’re thinking of undertaking a construction project you will probably find yourself in need of architectural services. There are a number of ways that you could potentially approach this, the most common of which are probably the following:

  • refer to the nearest copy of yellow pages or its online Google equivalent and search for architects.

  • word of mouth: speak to a business acquaintance, neighbour or friend about a completed project and their experience of this.

  • ask the local planning authority or building regulation department whom they would recommend.

  • refer to the ARB or RIBA register of architects.

Whichever method is adopted there are a number of steps which you should take in order to ensure that you have the right person or practice for the job in hand. It is important initially to establish that the person appointed is suitably qualified and since the ARB (Architect’s Registration Board) have a directory of all qualified architects in the uk this can be simply checked online – see www.arb.org.uk

Not all practices/individuals seek to be or are RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) registered practices – where a practice is registered the inclusion of the word ‘Chartered’ in the practice name signifies that the practice complies with the more onerous requirements of ensuring compliance with the RIBA’s code for chartered practices which seeks to ensure quality assurance functions over and above those normally required of any registered architect whether chartered or not.

The RIBA also issue a directory of registered and chartered practices at www.architecture.com

(Individuals or practices who are registered have paid a subscription fee to the RIBA who essentially exist to promote the function and role of the profession to potential clients and organisations including particularly the government.) The RIBA is represented in Wales by the RSAW but in Scotland practices are registered by the RIAS.

Once you have identified a list of potential practices to approach you should ensure that you learn a little bit about them and about their work – a good way of doing this is to visit their website – most practices these days have a web presence which is set up with a portfolio of their projects. Review these and try and form a shortlist of practices with whom you have a certain empathy with their work and who perhaps have undertaken work of a similar scale and complexity to that of your own – bear in mind however that architects are trained to deal with projects of various scales, complexity and values and for this reason most should be suitably qualified to deal with whatever project is directed to them. You should also consider whether or not you need the reassurance of knowing that if the architect dealing with your project falls ill, someone else will be available at the practice to take the work forward.

it is important to recognise that with an almost infinite number of solutions possible to any particular problem a practice’s ouvre will be reflected in their completed portfolio – this is why you should seek to work with a practice whose work you can empathise with.

When discussing with a potential practice try and ensure that the person you are speaking with is also the person with whom you will be discussing the progress of the project since it is important that you are comfortable in your relationship with the individual concerned. If you do not feel comfortable, it is unlikely that this is the right practice for you and you should perhaps consider an alternative.

Finally ensure that the appointment details are confirmed by the practice in writing and that you have a clear understanding of both their role and that of yours.

I hope that this simplistic outline provides some guidance on how best to approach the appointment of an architect for your project.
